Picture It - 2009...

a new runner embarks on a journey of a thousand miles.

Okay so I'm really just talking about 13.1 miles, but it was the very first 13.1 which changed everything.

Looking through pictures for a different blog post, I found this. I ran my first half marathon in the fall of 2009 and cam in last in my age group. My finishing time was 2:44:52, on the slow end of my goal, but under goal none-the-less. I was just happy, after trailing a 70+ woman for the first 5 miles I didn't come in dead last.

This weekend I'll be running my 11th half marathon. I've come a long way in the past 3+ years, literally and figuratively. Saturday will be a training race in preparation for my 3rd round of 26.2. I'm horrid at negative splits and really need to train myself to start slowly. My goal for this weekend is to start significantly slower than I know I'm able to run and go from there.

Despite some unexpected pre-race anxiety, I'm looking forward to finding the way to the start line this weekend.

So today, on this Thankful Throwback Thursday I share these pictures with you.

I'm thankful for my ability to run. For the friends I've made along the way. For the confidence and strength I've gained. And for the love and support my family has given me along the way.

For what are you thankful today?
